The Coolest Thing...

For those of you that don't know, I live in Rockport and drive to my store in Port Aransas everyday, which means I have to cross the ferry every single day. In the stretch from Aransas Pass to the actual ferry landing I always see people fishing in the mornings. Sometimes I see kayakers out at the Lighthouse Lakes setting out to silently approach and hopefully catch the drum that live in the lakes, other times I see motorized bay boats zooming out to what they hope will be their 'hot spot' for the day, and then there are always people parked along the shore casting off the sand. Well today I saw the coolest thing since January when I started making this drive everyday. I saw a white SUV parked along the shore with the driver standing by the hood casting out into the water. Not that special really, I have seen this a thousand time. The thing that really made me smile when I saw this scene was the person standing their casting was a woman! This lady was out there all by herself fishing! I think that is the coolest thing ever and it basically sums up why I started Pink Marlin! There are a lot of women out there just like the lady I saw fishing today. I am one of these women and I am sure if you are reading this blog that you are too or you know someone who is.

I remember one time in particular that I went fishing by myself.  I didn't have to work the next day I was just planning to hang around the house and catch up on all those fun activities like laundry, dishes, etc. It was at dinner that night I told one of my friends I wanted to go fishing. He said, "Then go." Duh! Why wasn't I going fishing on my day off? Because I didn't have anyone to go with? Who needs someone to go with! I enjoyed fishing and I wanted to go so I made the decision to go.  I called my dad to ask if I could use his boat that next morning. Of course he said yes because my dad is always so great like that. So the next morning I woke up early (still not a huge fan of this part of fishing), went and got coffee, a taco, and shrimp. It was hilarious when I walked into the convenience store because all the other fishermen were there getting their coffee and then there was me, the only girl, but I didn't care. I was going fishing. I went back to the house and got the boat ready, lowered the lift, and took off on my fishing trip. As soon as I got out there I started to head to my destination and trying to read the channel markers. I will admit I did get a little turned around at the start but soon I got back on track and was off to Carlos Fingers to catch some fish! It definitely got a little sketchy in some areas and I don't think I ever took my eyes off the depth finder. So I was out there fishing, not catching anything, but still enjoying myself when I saw this guy run his boat aground. I couldn't help but laugh just a little, at least I hadn't done that. After a couple hours of hitting different spots around the Fingers, I decided to head home and stop on some spots on the way. I think I caught a hammerhead and a skip jack that day. Not exactly your prize fish, but when I got back to the dock I was so happy! I had a great time fishing, even if  I didn't catch what I wanted. I also felt so proud of myself. I didn't need anyone to take me fishing. It was something I loved to do and something I now knew I could do on my own.

And that is why I started Pink Marlin and why I continue to fall in love the concept of Pink Marlin each and every day. I think it is so neat when I see a woman fishing, whether she is by herself, with other women, or with some of the guys, she's out there doing it!

When I see something like I saw this morning it just reminds me there are a lot of women out there just like me. And that is the biggest idea and belief behind the Pink Marlin brand.
